World of Words Canada April 2008
World of Words (WOW) is a celebration of Connecticut’s literary and cultural
roots. Public libraries throughout the state select and engage our ethnic
communities to recognize and share their heritage throughout performances,
hands-on demonstrations, readings, exhibitions, and discussions. Presented by
Connecticut Center for the Book, a program of Hartford Public Library and
affiliate of the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress.

Montréal native Madeleine Monette speaks about her recently released novel, Les Rouleurs(2007). She is also the author of four other novels : Le Double suspect (1980 Robert-Cliche Award), Petites violences (1982), Amandes et melon (1991) and La femme furieuse (1997).In 2000, Le Double suspect appeared in English under the title Doubly Suspect.

The Polar Bears of Churchill, Canada
Hudson Bay is the land of the polar bear. This slide lecture follows the bears as they undertake their annual migration, one of the world’s most spectacular natural phenomena. Other attractions of the desert-like tundra include arctic fox, arctic hare, snowy owl, and gyrfalcons.

Tracing family trees in Canada is one of the easiest and most rewarding of genealogical adventures, according to Ivan Robinson of the French-Canadian Genealogical Society of Connecticut. Mr. Robinson describes the many records easily available for New France (now Quebec), Acadia (now Nova Scotia and other maritime provinces), and in New England.
